The Safegard Group is happy to announce the start of our Summer Internship Program for 2019! Gabi Vallejo of University of Delaware and Ryan Cooke of Villanova University will spend their summer interning with us. Gabi and Ryan will experience a rotational format in which they will spend time in each of our primary business divisions (Commercial Insurance, Claims & Risk, Personal & Small Business Insurance, and Employee Benefits). Amount of time per rotation will depend on the student’s area of interest and our area of need; responsibilities will vary greatly to give them the most exposure possible to the different business divisions.
The interns need to meet highly demanding academic, teamwork, communication, and organizational qualifications to be accepted into The Safegard Group’s Summer Intern Program; Gabi and Ryan met our qualifications very successfully and we are very excited to have them working with us this summer. You can read more about Gabi and Ryan below and join us in welcoming them to The Safegard Group in the comments!
About Gabi Vallejo
Gabi joined Safegard as an Intern for the summer, and in this position, she will experience each of the main divisions by assisting with invoicing, mailing Certificates of Insurance, and updating information on the internal database system, Vertafore‘s AMS360. Also, by rotating through each division, she will be able to assist staff members with other tasks specific to that department.
She is currently a junior at the University of Delaware and is expecting to graduate in May 2021 with a major in Cognitive Science and a double minor in Disability Studies and Human Development and Family Studies. Within this program her specialization is in Speech-Language Pathology but recently became interested in learning about the insurance business after talking with her family about another possible career path.
Outside of work, Gabi is busy, especially in the spring with raising money alongside her sorority for both Autism Speaks, which is an organization geared to help with autism research and awareness, and The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation which is a children’s cancer charity that helps families through financial assistance. She also enjoys running, going to the shore, and traveling.
About Ryan Cooke
Ryan is a recent addition to The Safegard Group as an Intern. This summer, he will have the opportunity to rotate through each division to learn from experienced professionals, aid in general operations, and contribute a new perspective to the team.
As a rising senior at Villanova University, Ryan is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Economics with a specialization certificate in Business Economics and a minor in Spanish. He recently received his Bloomberg Market Concepts certification which provided an in-depth introduction to financial services. Ryan is interested in further exploring various areas of the business world including insurance, finance, real estate, and investment banking.
Outside of the office, Ryan is involved in philanthropy initiatives as the Vice President of a fraternity that spearheads school wide events to raise money for both the B+ Foundation, a charity for families affected by pediatric cancer, and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Ryan is also passionate about football, hockey, and fishing.
