Summer is in full swing, and with it comes high temperatures and unpredictable weather. The Claims Team here at Safegard is always ready to assist you in the event of weather-related property damage to your business. Contact your Safegard Group Claim Consultant immediately following any property loss to report your claim and obtain additional guidance.
What do you do about Property Damage?
Here are a few tips that will help document your claim for the insurance company and facilitate the claims process.
- Protect property from further damage.
- Cover the property if it is exposed to the elements.
- Make temporary repairs, as reasonable and necessary, to protect the property from further damage.
- Maintain a detailed record of all expenses incurred.
- Separate damaged from undamaged personal property.
- Take all necessary measures to continue normal business operations post loss.
- Notify Safegard immediately If your business is inoperable, or operating at less than normal levels.
- Consider setting up a separate account to track all expenses related to the claim.
- Take photos or video to illustrate the extent of your loss and all damaged property.
- Prepare an inventory of damaged business property.
- List quantity, description and value.
- Attach bills, receipts, estimates and related documents.
- Retain damaged property until a claims adjuster approves its disposal (unless a danger to safety exists).
- The adjuster may need to inspect the property.
- The insurance company may be able to salvage the damaged property.
- Expect to be contacted by an insurance company claims adjuster within 48 hours after your claim is reported . Please notify your Safegard Group Claim Consultant if you have not been contacted within that timeframe.
- If the damage significantly affects your continuing operations, we will request that the insurance carrier expedite your claim.
- Please let us know immediately if your circumstances change and this loss will have a greater impact on your business than originally anticipated.
- Be prepared to provide additional information as requested by the claims adjuster.
