The Safegard Group is happy to announce the start of our Summer Internship Program for 2015! Sean Fitzpatrick of University of Delaware joins us for his second summer in a row and Courtney Smith of Temple University will spend her first summer with us. Sean and Courtney will experience a rotational format in which they will spend time in each of our primary business divisions (Commercial, Personal, and Employee Benefits). Amount of time per rotation will depend on the student’s area of interest and our area of need; responsibilities will vary greatly to give them the most exposure possible to the different business divisions.
The interns need to meet highly demanding academic, teamwork, communication, and organizational qualifications to be accepted into The Safegard Group’s Summer Intern Program; Sean and Courtney met our qualifications very successfully and we are very excited to have them working with us this summer. You can read more about Sean and Courtney below and join us in welcoming them to The Safegard Group in the comments!
Sean Fitzpatrick
Sean has joined The Safegard Group’s team of interns for the second time this summer as a Commercial Lines Intern. He will work within our Commercial Lines department to assist management with various projects and reports, and help fulfill the day to day needs of our clientele. He will aid in updating and creating marketing and service material, accompany producers on new business and renewal calls, and attend insurance carrier meetings to discuss market trends and specific client accounts.
Sean is a student at the University of Delaware, where he is majoring in Marketing. He has a strong sales background as he has worked as a sales associate at Golf Galaxy for the last year and has worked for PJ Fitzpatrick doing outdoor sales dealing directly with prospective clients. He has also been working at the University of Delaware’s risk management department working directly with the risk managers throughout the school year. He works on a daily basis trying to mitigate risk around campus as well as assisting with the Student health benefits plan while dealing with multiple carriers and brokers on behalf of the University. Sean has remained a caddy at the Wilmington Country Club for the last five years as well.
As a golf enthusiast, Sean competed in the Delaware Amateur and Open Championships the last two years. He also qualified for Delaware’s state championship all four years of high school, as well as being all conference 3 years in a row.
Courtney Smith
Courtney recently joined The Safegard Group as an Intern. She will rotate through each of the main divisions, helping with invoicing, mailing Certificates of Insurance, and updating information on the internal database. She will also assist staff members with various other tasks throughout her time in each department.
Courtney recently became interested in the insurance business after her first year as a Business major at Temple University. She is now a Risk Management and Insurance student at Temple, expecting to graduate in May, 2016. In this program, her specialty is Property and Casualty insurance and she is on the track to becoming CPCU certified.
Outside of work, she is an Assistant Middle School Lacrosse Coach in the spring and an Assistant Middle School Field Hockey Coach in the fall. She is very involved in raising money for the ALS Association, Greater Philadelphia Chapter. She also likes to scrapbook and draw/paint in her free time.
