In the final winter intern update for this year, Katie and Gray reflect on their experiences with Safegard and update us on their final few weeks.
Katie’s Experiences
It is hard to believe my winter with The Safegard Group has already come to an end. Although it seemed like it could be a long month of working in an office everyday before my final semester of school started, my time here has flown by and I have enjoyed it immensely.
Over the past week, I have worked on a little bit of everything to wrap up several different projects. I worked on a few more Executive Summaries, embedding Excel tables in the documents. I also continued finding the contact information for potential clients and putting it in an excel document for some of our producers to refer to. I went through the new intranet site I created with Mike Hermansen who will take the reigns on that to get it up and running for our employees. I am excited to see the finished product! Additionally, I finalized the details regarding my professor’s upcoming presentation on teamwork and leadership, and I hope the whole Safegard team finds his presentation interesting and useful for them in their professional lives.
My final task of the winter was to create a 100-block grid for the new tradition of the Safegard Group Super Bowl Block Pool. At our intern goodbye lunch, we randomly chose numbers to fill in the grid, so everyone in on the pool will be watching anxiously on Sunday to see who the big winners are!
I can’t thank the people of Safegard enough for being so friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout my time here. It is truly an amazing environment to work in everyday, and I am excited to see what the future holds for the company. I have learned a lot about not only the insurance industry but about working in any professional setting, and this experience will no doubt help me in my future. I am so appreciative of this awesome opportunity.
Gray’s Experiences
In today’s inter-connected world, a well developed and intuitive customer interface is a critical component of a company’s web presence. As the role of social media and the internet in our economy continue to grow, it is important that businesses remain diligent in keeping their systems current.
For my next project, I was asked to tackle my largest one yet and create a new website for The Safegard Group. The current website, which has served its purpose well for the last few years, presented clients and potential customers with relevant information in a professional and well organized manner. In designing our new site, I wanted to keep those same principles of simplicity and convenience, while showcasing the services, benefits, and achievements of the organization in a visually appealing way.
The most valuable asset at the disposal of Safegard is its team of experienced and dedicated leaders who are experts in their field. That is why on the redesigned site, I was sure to prominently feature the Board of Directors, as well as many of our Vice Presidents and Executives along with their professional bio. In featuring our staff, the website provides clients a unique opportunity to learn more about our knowledgeable team and assuring them that their needs will be met.
I was able to accomplish this through the use of a web building program known as Divi, a website building tool which allows for the intuitive construction of websites. The website template is currently under review by Mike Hermansen, Director of Operations, and will be published in the near future following any changes he decides to make.
In the last two weeks of my internship, I was able to assist Producer Sean Fitzpatrick with prospecting work for new clients. This involved researching businesses across the tri state area. These businesses covered a wide array of industries such as realty, HVAC, and medical. Additionally, I was able to sit in on follow up meetings with our friends at Eastern Alliance. These meetings, in conjunction with my prospecting work, allowed me to gain insight into the processes involved in gaining new clients and strengthening existing relationships.
Undoubtedly, the experiences I was fortunate enough to have at Safegard will serve me well in my future endeavors.
Thank You
