These past few weeks have been full of new experiences and learning new skills for me.
Learning New Skills
I dove even deeper into learning AMS360 over the past two weeks while coming up with a process to identify our Personal Lines customers with birthdays in the coming week. I learned how to create new Target Lists to extract certain information we are looking for, in this case, the list of customers with birthdays in the current month. I also learned how to use the “form letters” tool, which can take a target list and create and export documents with the information on that list. I also looked into more tools Excel offers to efficiently organize a report that clearly shows which birthdays are coming in the next week so our administrative team can send out birthday cards.
I spent most of my time recently working on redoing Safegard’s Intranet. I began by exploring the current intranet in place, and then I did some research on what things should be included on an intranet to make it as useful as possible for employees. Although I do not have much experience designing web pages, Mike Hermansen showed me a program called Divi that takes the programming out of web design. Divi provides user-friendly tools that use a more visual designing technique that allows users to easily create and update their webpages. I was able to create the start of a new intranet site for Safegard while gaining some new knowledge on creating websites that I will definitely be able to use in the future.
Having New Experiences
I also got to go out on a client visit with a few members of the Safegard team to update them on risk management. Sitting in on this meeting, I learned about what things to look for on insurance certifications, what complications clients might run into, and how to avoid these complications. Additionally, I gained some experience interacting with clients and what that should look like.
Next I worked on finding contacts at different roofing, contracting, and construction prospective clients for one of our sales representatives. I began creating a spreadsheet of contact information that will be useful in helping to grow our client base at Safegard.
Lastly, I gave my presentation on the new Vertafore mobile app to some members of the company. Again, it was a good experience to help me become accustomed to giving presentations in front of large groups of people in a different setting than the classroom.
